Dear Colleagues,

We are happy to present to you our programme book, which gives you an insight into the remarkable programme of the "Joint Meeting of the European Society of Microcirculation (ESM) and the Society of Microcirculation and Vascular Biology (GfMVB)". This meeting will be held at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany from 13 -16 October 2011.

The meeting will provide a platform for over 400 scientists from all over the world to meet and discuss the fascinating aspects of microcirculation and vascular biology.

Excellent contributions from experienced researchers and the engagement of a large number of young scientists were essential to compile this extensive programme, which contains many oral and poster presentations.  In addition, our decision to dedicate more time for poster presentations will allow our young scientists to become visible and thoroughly present their findings.

We are convinced that our meeting programme will give you a broad overview about microcirculation and vascular biology. Fascinating topics like “Signalling within the vascular wall”, “Inflammation” or “Angiogenesis” as well as our plenary talks (Ulrich von Andrian, Gregg Semenza, Jamey Marth, Ralf Adams) will certainly be some of the highlights of this meeting. Not to forget our Young Investigator Symposiums, one made possible by the generous support of the Japanese Society of Microcirculation and one be organized by the hosting societies ESM and GfMVB.
